This program is written in Amos Basic and is used to show
a library of pictures or play a library of music files
automatically. You can select a number of different ways for
the pictures to appear on the screen using either menu
commands or keystrokes. The music files must be Amos format.
To start RAZZLE DAZZLE simply boot the disk.
Alternatively you can boot your usual workbench and then
simply double click on the icon. The program will then load
and run. A few starter pictures and a music file are already
on the disk and so the program will automatically look in
the directory of the disk where the program is started from
for its picture and music files. You may change the disk at
will by selecting "New Picture Disc" from the menu, or
pressing the "HELP" key.
A standard Amos1.2 file requestor will be offered and
you may now select the disk or directory where your pictures
are located.
For those of you who do not have Amos, the file selector
will load the directory of the current directory and you can
select the directory or file you want by simply clicking on
it. Scroll the directory using scroll bar on the left side
or clicking on the up/down arrows above it. The little icon
above the arrows will select the parent directory and
display it. To change devices use the right mouse key to get
the names of the disks available to you, then the left key
to select the one you want.
All of your pictures should be saved on your picture
disks with a ".IFF" extension eg.
"PRETTY_HOUSE.Iff"
or
"PIcTuRE.iFf".
note that Upper/Lower case does not matter. Similarly your
music files must be saved with a ".MUZ" extension eg.
"POLKA.MUZ"
and they must be in the same folder (directory) for RAZZLE
DAZZLE to find them. You can make any number of disk picture
libraries up using this system and show them to the
accompaniment of your music with ease and style. Simply
insert the picture library disk you want to show and use
"NEW PICTURE DISC" from the menu to show that disk. It can
be in any of your disk drives including a RAM DRIVE.
RAZZLE DAZZLE can be used to construct your picture
disk library too. If you select "OTHER FUNCTIONS" from the
menu or press "Del" a point and click page full of options
will be displayed. By selecting "Load Picture" you can use a
standard Amos1.2 file selector to load any picture from any
drive. The picture will then be displayed waiting for a
click from the mouse. Once you have clicked the mouse the
point and click page will return, and you can now click on
"Save Picture" to save the picture in compacted form on any
disk you wish, again using a standard Amos1.2 file
selector. The same procedure can be used for your music
files.
Some other functions are available from this point and
click page as well, and the function of these will be pretty
obvious. When you select any of the time setting boxes a
timer will be set to the time displayed. When you return
(use "OK" box) to the Slide Show the picture will be shown
for the length of time you have selected before the next
picture or music file is loaded. If you select "FOREVER" you
should press the space bar (or left mouse) after returning
to the Slide Show in order to start the show going, the
other timer selections will automatically start upon
returning to the slide show.
The "QUIT" box will abort RAZZLE DAZZLE altogether and
return you to the Amos editor if you are running RAZZLE
DAZZLER program from there.
The music files you wish to play can be written using a
number of popular music editors and then converted to Amos
format using the programs supplied with Amos when you
purchased it. These editors include GMC (Games Music
Creator) and SoundTracker. The picture files can be created
using any paint program eg. Photon paint or Deluxe Paint
3.0.
The program will display Ham as well as normal
pictures, however pictures developed in interlace mode will
be converted to non interlace for display purposes.
OPERATION OF RAZZLE DAZZLE
Once RAZZLE DAZZLE is running a title page will be
displayed. You can proceed by pressing the left mouse key or
wait for a preset time to expire, at which time the program
will proceed automatically. Razzle Dazzle will now examine
the directory of the boot disk looking for .MUZ or .IFF
files. When it finds them it makes a list in memory and
proceeds to load the files for display/playing one at a
time. When it reaches the end of the list it simply repeats
the procedure. This continues until user intervention
occurs.
Once a picture or music file is displayed/played the
program can be forced to load the next one in the list by
pressing the space key or left mouse button. If this does
not happen then the picture or music file will be
displayed/played until the preset time expires, then a new
file will automatically load. This timer can be set using
"Other Functions" from the menu or by pressing "Del".
While a picture is being displayed you can ask RAZZLE
DAZZLE to paint "pretty pictures" over the painting in a
dynamic display of colour. This is selectable from the menu
and is great entertainment for very small children. They
seem to be enthralled by the display and when they press the
keys a series of sound effects is triggered, much to their
delight. Many of the key selectable features are disabled
while this is taking place, to prevent the changing of vital
settings or breaking out of the program.
Please note that this feature has no educational value
whatsoever. It is designed purely for the entertainmen of
small children. When the patterns are not being displayed
the number keys one to six can be used in place of the menu
and mouse. The keys F1 - F10 have another use however. They
affect the way the picture will be
presented.
F1 will cause the picture to appear slowly on the screen.
F2 causes the picture to roll off the screen and back on.
F3 switches off the special effect and the picture appears
instantly.
F4 to F10 change the pattern used in the appear feature used
by the first two function keys (F1 & F2).
When the patterns are not active the "Esc" key can be used
to abort the program.
While a picture is being displayed a small screen will
be on the bottom of your monitor screen displaying all the
details about the size of the picture, number of colours,
name, current folder (directory), time to file change and so
on. If you wish you may hide this information screen by
pressing "H" for Hide. To bring the screen back again press
"S" for Show. The screen will then re-appear.
The mouse pointer can also get in the way when you are
viewing your pictures and so RAZZLE DAZZLE will let you hide
it. Simply press the "M" key to hide it and then press the
"M" key again to bring it back. It is handy to have it
visible while you are using the menus as the pointer can be
hard to locate if it is not visible although it will still
work
